A solid foundation of innovative engineering and design ensures the superior standard of our road tankers and trailers.

Design

During the design process, we take the greatest care to ensure that the needs of the individual customer are integrated with our understanding of the transport industry, making us clear market leaders in terms of structural integrity, safety and payload.

The design process uses computer-aided-design (CAD), while input is carefully verified by correlating actual prototype dynamic data with theoretical data. Finite-element-analysis techniques ensure a sound, optimised design solution.

All new models are designed in accordance with current national and international regulatory standards.

Research and Development

Research and Development

GRW invests considerably in research and development to maintain our status as the leading manufacturer in this industry. This requires extensive knowledge of product service conditions as well as the application of new technology to optimise all products.

New products undergo extensive prototype testing in-house, and these are also tested at accredited test centres which include the facilities of the University of Stellenbosch and the SABS Commercial Mechanical Testing Laboratory.

Another example of GRW’s research projects are a combination of long-term (longer than 3 months) and short-term measurements (one day) of the dynamic load conditions to which various tanker models are subjected to during normal operational conditions.

These measurements are analysed and used to optimise the design criteria for maximum and fatigue load conditions of the tanker models.

The use of the most advanced technological equipment allows for laser cutting of parts and components (all of which are pre-drawn). Purpose-built jigging and welding by CNC programmable robots ensures the creation of optimum conditions for the best possible weld. The result is perfect alignment, dimensions, consistency and repeatability.

At GRW we believe that a high-quality product can only be built by highly skilled individuals. We invest a considerable amount of time and money in training and developing our people, which enables them to achieve the very high standards that are intrinsic to the GRW brand. All welders, for instance, undergo stringent in-house training to achieve coded status before being allowed to work inside the production facility.

Standard operating procedures and a comprehensive quality control system ensure that we deliver tankers and trailers that adhere to the highest possible standards. To optimally meet the challenges in everyday transport operations – the creation of a solution starts with an innovative design process.

Manufacturing

GRW is a leading transport equipment designer and manufacturer that offers a wide range of quality, state-of-the-art tankers and trailers. We have over 20 years of experience in the industry and over these years, we have evolved into a technologically-driven producer of trailers for several global markets.

We are guided by the principles of quality service and reliability. We have a global network of operators that extends across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Australia. GRW strives to employ the best people and invest in the latest technology in order to commit to innovation and achieving the highest international standards.

The GRW manufacturing complex is nestled amid the Dutoitskloof mountains in Worcester, South Africa. Our production lines are split across separate parts of the facility, which covers 40 000 square metres under a single roof. A team of designers and engineers create 3D models of each trailer and tanker at the start of the production process. This is where our structural integrity and payload capabilities are solidified for each product.

The approved design is then put into production. Using advanced machinery and automated equipment, GRW trailers and tankers are cut, welded, bent and pieced together on one of our extensive assembly lines. The state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment ensures the highest degree of precision and assembly.

The trailers and tankers then move to our spraying and coating division, where they are painted and protected according to your specifications. We offer powder coating or spraypainting in the colour and finish of your choice.

GRW has partnered with German trailer manufacturer, Schmitz Cargobull, which has allowed us to offer FERROPLAST® insulated panels for refrigerated trailers. These market-leading products are completely moisture-proof and are guaranteed to maintain efficient insulation. The panels are made from a ground-breaking open pore foam technology that is only available in South Africa through GRW.

The fully-assembled tankers and trailers undergo strict testing before they roll off the production line. This ensures that each of our products meets the various international regulations for safety, quality and road-legal requirements.
