Merger

GRW Isando, a division of GRW Engineering (Pty) Ltd., and Transport and Engineering Equipment Co (Pty) Ltd. (better known as TEE) are merging.

GRW Holdings (Pty) Ltd. acquired the issued shares in TEE effectively 1 July 2008.  A decision was made to move the manufacturing of pneumatic dry bulk tankers from the TEE plant in Devland to the GRW manufacturing plant in Worcester for economic and technical reasons. Capacity is therefore created at the Devland plant to carry out all repair work currently conducted in Isando.

The old TEE plant will now be known as GRW – Gauteng, a division of GRW Engineering (Pty) Ltd.

GRW Isando will remain open until Friday 12 June 2009 for degassing and estimating purposes and all work will thereafter be carried out at the corner of East Street and Axle Road – Devland JHB.  GRW Isando will close down, officially on Saturday 13 June 2009.

TEE (now GRW Gauteng) has been involved in tanker manufacturing and repair for more than 20 years and our customers will benefit from their experience.

Andries Smith, the newly appointed GM will take over from Peter Hoeben.  Andries, previously employed by Unitrans as Technical Manager for the Mining Division has vast technical experience in the transport field. Peter Hoeben has been the MD of TEE for the last 11 years and has decided to retire.  Peter however will be responsible to ensure a smooth transition of management to Andries prior to leaving.

The Technical Manager is John Larsen and the Workshop Manager is Terence Jorden.

GRW thank our customers for your valued support over the years.  Be assured of our best efforts to continuously improve on the products GRW manufacture as well as the after sales services.

See the “Contact Us” page for new details and “Location Map” for site location assistance.

A New Giant Tanker Deal

GRW Engineering, South Africa’s leading liquid tanker manufacturer, and Transport and Equipment Engineering Company (TEE), South Africa’s leading manufacturer of dry bulk aluminium tankers, are now a combined force under the ownership of GRW Holdings through the outright purchase of TEE.

This deal makes a lot of sense as it extends GRW’s product offerings into the pneumatic dry bulk and animal feed auger bulker tanker arena with quality tankers manufactured by TEE under licence to Feldbinder Germany and Warren Manufacturing USA, both leading product specialist companies.

“As GRW, we have been very successful in the liquid tanker market. However, with the acquisition of TEE, who have over 30 years experience in the local market and with their strong license agreements on dry bulk, this deal now extends our footprint across a broader segment of the market,” says Wentzel van der Merwe, chief financial officer of GRW.

“Many blue chip clients such as Unitrans and Imperial have always been part of the GRW client family. Through this deal, this family has now grown with the inclusion of companies such as Barloworld Logistics and Haulcon, to mention but a few,” he adds.

For these clients, the synergies arising from the deal will be welcomed news. Unitrans, for example, runs feed from Epol to the Rainbow Chicken outlets in Worcester. Up to now, the service and back-up facilities for the dry bulk tankers used on this contract were based at TEE’s Aeroton service centre. Unitrans is now offered a back-up facility closer to the operational area of this contract via GRW’s Worcesterbased operation.

According to Van Der Merwe, GRW will also soon be opening a branch in Cape Town bringing to three the number of outlets it has in the country. The third is in Johannesburg. TEE’s head office and manufacturing plant is also based in Johannesburg.

Founded in 1996, GRW has been a phenomenal success with huge inroads made not only into the local market but also into overseas markets. This is the company’s first major outside acquisition and based on its past record, the combined operations will grow into a giant on the South African tanker market.

WIN WIN its the name of the game

Every now and again we come across a transport operation or application that really stands out in terms of innovation and pure ingenuity. An invitation last November from GRW Engineering to the handover of some new tankers to Pietermaritzburg-based logistics operator Manline for use in a contract with ArcelorMittal South Africa sparked the feeling that here was one such operation. That feeling was not wrong. In fact, we came across an industry- first writes

FPS Show 2007

GRW Engineering UK Ltd exhibited two tanker trailers at the FPS Show 2007 in Telford.

At their first ever FPS show. GRW Eng UK Ltd turned the heads with two very impressive exhibits. One being that of “Haartz Tanker Rental”, a silver aluminium 42800L 6 compartment petroleum spirit tanker. And secondly a high spec chemical tanker for one of our Dutch customers “Jan Dohmen”.

The show was held in Telford, England and was held over two days (18th & 19th April). Customers from all over the UK & Ireland visited the show. The show was considered a resounding success with an order taken for 4 units by SOS Tanker Sales on the stand of day one.
As a result of the enquiries taken at the show the overall response was much greater than expected. Lee Tipton, head of the UK operation comments “The UK market is the first stepping stone in the long term vision in establishing ourselves as a major supplier of tankers to wider European market”.

He also remains quietly confident with the response from the show and the overall performance of their first year in such a small, yet very competitive market. Lee remains very optimistic and has already established the UK operation as a serious player in the UK market with much keen interest from many potential clients.

Next years show is to be held in Dublin. The dates for the show are 23rd & 24th of April 2008.
